Welcome to Sylmar Neighborhood Council's
TRIVIA TUESDAY!
What is Scotland’s National animal?
A.) Unicorn
B.) Clydesdale Horse
C.) Miniature Horse
ANSWER is - A.) Unicorn
You probably wouldn't think of a magical horned creature typically seen on children's lunchboxes! But it's true: the unicorn really is the official national animal of Scotland. And our love for this famous mythological creature dates back many centuries.
It may seem unusual that the national animal of Scotland is a mythological creature, but the unicorn has been an enduring symbol throughout history - many believed that unicorns were living creatures.
In Celtic mythology, unicorns are believed to be a symbol of purity and power. The legendary creature symbolizes bravery, strength, and determination which may be why it was chosen as their national animal! And it's not just symbolic in Scotland, the influence of unicorns is everywhere from social media to film and fashion. There's even a National Unicorn Day which is celebrated on 9 April!
While we have not seen any unicorns here in Sylmar (yet), it would not be surprising to see some of our fellow "Sylmarians" on horseback in the line at our local Starbucks or on trails heading to our glorious mountains.
