Through monthly cohort meetings, innovative service projects, professional development trainings, and a robust guest speakers series, Youth Council students are empowered to advocate for a more just and equitable Los Angeles for all - including the City’s next generation of pioneers. The Mayor’s Youth Council is comprised of a diverse array of public, charter, parochial, private and continuing education high school students from the City’s 7 geographic areas: Central, East LA, East Valley, Harbor, South LA, Westside, and West Valley. Each area has its own cohort which meets monthly at a designated location. All students convene quarterly at a local college/university to further build upon professional development and leadership skills. Each Youth Council cohort is led by its respective Area Representative from the Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement, and will oftentimes feature guest speakers from the local political, nonprofit, corporate and labor sectors.
