As a resident and home owner here in Sylmar for over two decades I have come to appreciate the truly remarkable community that we all share. From our wonderful parks, our hiking and horse trails in Wilson Canyon to the diversity of our neighborhoods, Sylmar has been a great place to have raised my family. It’s time to give a little back. I was raised here in the Valley attending college and graduate school at CSUN on the GI Bill after the Vietnam War. I joined the American Red Cross after college and over the next 35 years came to understand the importance of creating partnerships between local government, business and residents to solve problems. Clearly we have a few challenges facing us here is Sylmar, including the lack of retail stores. The need to expand our share of LA City services is immediate. From additional police services to adding a new fire station, to help in creating neighborhood preparedness programs, we deserve the same respect as any other community in LA.
