Sylmar New Fire Station #31 MAKING STEPS FORWARD!

Dear Neighbor,

Wildfires are always top of mind in our communities, and keeping our neighborhoods safe is my highest priority. That’s why I’ve been tirelessly working on bringing a fire station to Sylmar, and I’m excited to share a major milestone in strengthening our emergency response system.

This week, the City Planning Commission approved the zoning changes needed for Fire Station 31 in Sylmar, officially clearing the way for the project to move toward construction and bringing us one step closer to fulfilling this long-awaited promise. The project will then move to the Planning and Land Use Management Committee before heading to the full City Council for final approval.

Establishing a new fire station in the foothills is critical for reducing response times and expanding wildfire protection where our residents need it most. I’m committed to keeping this momentum going as I continue working with the City Planning Department and the Bureau of Engineering to deliver this long-awaited resource for the Northeast Valley.

Los incendios forestales siempre son una preocupación en nuestras comunidades, y mantener seguros a nuestros vecindarios es mi mayor prioridad. Por eso, he estado trabajando arduamente para traer una estación de bomberos a Sylmar, y me da mucho gusto compartir un importante avance para fortalecer nuestra respuesta ante emergencias.

Esta semana, la Comisión de Planificación de la Ciudad aprobó los cambios de zonificación necesarios para la Estación de Bomberos 31 en Sylmar, despejando el camino para que el proyecto avance hacia su construcción y acercándonos un paso más a cumplir con esta promesa que nuestra comunidad ha esperado por mucho tiempo. El proyecto ahora pasará al Comité de Planificación y Manejo del Uso de Terrenos antes de llegar al pleno del Concejo Municipal para su aprobación final.

Establecer una nueva estación de bomberos en las comunidades al pie de las montañas es fundamental para reducir los tiempos de respuesta y ampliar la protección contra incendios forestales donde más la necesitan nuestros residentes. Estoy comprometida a mantener este impulso mientras continúo trabajando con el Departamento de Planificación de la Ciudad y la Oficina de Ingeniería para hacer realidad este recurso tan esperado para el Valle del Noreste.
