NEWS UPDATE - Sylmar New Fire Station #31

For more than 20 years, Sylmar residents have fought for a second fire station. Today, we're one step closer to making it a reality.
Since 1956, Fire Station 91 has been the only station serving this community, covering more than 12 square miles. Equal to the Cities of Burbank and Santa Monica, which have 5 and 6 Fire Stations in their communities
When Mayor Karen Bass visited Sylmar in 2023, she committed to working with Councilmember Monica Rodriguez to change that.

Today, the Mayor signed an ordinance removing a major obstacle that has delayed plans for Fire Station 31 on Foothill Boulevard.
Once built, the new station is expected to cut Station 91's service area in half, helping firefighters respond faster when every minute matters.
