Veterans Day Friday, November 11, 2022

President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the legislation on June 1, 1954. From then on, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

 

Cities across Los Angeles County will hold ceremonies and other events over the weekend to celebrate Veterans Day — which honors those who served in the United States Armed Forces.

Here are some local events that are being held near us here in Sylmar.

• Pacoima •

The annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade will take place in-person on Friday after a two-year hiatus. The parade will run along Laurel Canyon Boulevard, between San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Paxton Street. Information: PACOIMA

• Los Angeles •

The Forest Lawn Veterans Day Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Those interested in watching the ceremony can do so in-person at the park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, or on Facebook Live. More information on the live stream can be found at LOS ANGELES

• Burbank •

The city will its Veterans Day ceremony on Friday at McCambridge Park, 1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd. A pre-ceremony concert will begin at 10:15 a.m. The actual ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. BURBANK

• Pasadena •

The Pasadena Veterans Day Committee, in collaboration with Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 446, and American Legion Pasadena Post No. 13, invites the community to attend this year’s commemoration at 10:30 a.m. Friday at City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave. The ceremony’s featured speaker is Colonel Quintin D. Jones, commanding officer of the 23d Marine Regiment in San Bruno. PASADENA

• Santa Clarita •

Santa Clarita invites community members to join the City Council for the Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday at Veterans Historical Plaza, 24275 N. Walnut St. The ceremony will include musical performances, speakers, and more. Local veterans’ resources will provide information about their services. SANTA CLARITA

• Simi Valley •

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, 40 Presidential Drive, will host its annual Veterans Day Event at 11 a.m. Friday. The event will feature live musical entertainment, a civil war encampment, a military vehicle display, and a program honoring each military branch. Reservations are recommended.
