NEWSBREAK • Councilwoman Rodriguez takes steps forward towards additional Fire Services in Sylmar

Posted on 09/02/2023

On Sept. 1st, 2023, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez made a motion during the LA City Council meeting which is a large and much-welcomed step forward in bringing additional Emergency Services to Sylmar

Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez stated - "After years of negotiating and COVID delays, I am proud to share the progress on my efforts to fulfill the long overdue promise of a new Fire Station for our Sylmar community. Yesterday, I introduced a motion that will authorize the General Services Department and the Bureau of Engineering to accept land to be used as the location for the new Fire Station. Once site control of this property is achieved, City Departments can develop more detailed engineering and design work for the new station, informed by the service needs determined by the Fire Department. This includes the standards of cover, which will determine the ultimate cost of construction and staffing needs. While this represents a big step forward, the work is just beginning. Staffing levels for our fire personnel remain stretched and as a member of the Budget Committee and Chair of Public Safety Committee, I have continued to advocate for the staffing resources needed to ensure our neighborhoods are well served."
